With the general elections of October 2011, Tunisia took a historic step towards democracy in the Arab world.

The country is situated at the crossroads of the eastern and western Mediterranean and is only 140 km away from Europe. It has one of the highest rankings in Africa on the Human Development Index (HDI) and one of the highest GDPs per capita.
