Leeds is the UK`s third largest manufacturing centre. With around 1,800 firms and 36,000 employees, manufacturing makes a major contribution to the city`s economy, both in terms of employments and output, and there are some world leading companies based in the city. Engineering is the largest manufacturing sector in Leeds with approximately 13,250 employees in around 700 companies, whilst electronics are another significant sector of Leeds manufacturing. Yorkshire Forward has established a network of Centres for Industrial Collaboration (www.yorkshirecic.com) to encourage closer working between industry and universities. Leeds is also home to Electronics Yorkshire, which provides bespoke training for electronics companies in the region.
