Between 1998 and 2006 the number of jobs located in Rotherham increased by 23,100, from 80,900 to 104,000. The 28.6% rise was the highest increase in Yorkshire & The Humber and amongst the 20 highest increases in the UK.
The population of Rotherham is projected to increase from 255,700 in 2008 to 274,500 in 2020, resulting in an additional 18,800 people or a 7.4% increase.
Advanced Manufacturing Park
The £600m Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP), is a 100-acre (40 ha) hub, designed to enable world-leading manufacturing and materials research centres and high-tech manufacturing companies co-locating on a high-quality site. Concentrated research, supply chains and knowledge stimulate innovation, growth, efficiency and profitability. Companies involved include Boeing, Rolls Royce, Sandvik and Dormer Tools. Alongside the AMP, there are plans for a 60,000 sq m government office campus and further commercial units.
Waterfront
A £130m scheme, by developer TCN UK. The project, at Manvers, will regenerate 285-acres (115 ha) into a mixed-use development, to include a business park, residential, retail and leisure facilities.
Brookfields Park
Brookfeilds Park is one of the county`s largest investment projects at an estimated £250m, and involves transforming the 85-acre (34 ha) former coalfield site at Manvers to create a combination of office, distribution and industrial space.
Guest & Chrimes
Rotherham`s Council is committed to re-housing its office functions, in an all new, purpose-built 160,000sq.ft office building, located on the southern fringes of the town centre, on the former Guest and Chrimes site by 2012. This £60m investment in Rotherham Town Centre reflects the Council`s continued commitment to Rotherham`s renaissance as the sites vacated by the Council are to be made available for redevelopment. The development represents one of the most significant public sector property transactions outside of London in 2008.
Civic Centre Redevelopment
Plans for the redevelopment of the former Council sites will result in a further £200m boost to the town centre economy, with the introduction of a new leisure and retail based offer, by 2015.
Cultural Centre
The Council is progressing plans for the creation of a new £20m cultural centre in the heart of the town centre. Incorporating new theatre and library functions, the centre will provide a modern up-to-date facility for residents and visitors to the town centre.
Waverley
UK Coal plans to redevelop the former colliery at Waverley, into a sustainable high density mixed use community, including approximately 4,000 houses across 741 acres, providing community facilities and green areas.
£350m YES! Project
Located on a 327-acre ex-coalfield site adjoining Rother Valley Country Park in Rotherham, this project aims to develop a state-of-the-art leisure and entertainment resort - the biggest of its kind in Europe.

Helical Governetz's have submitted a planning application for a 60,000 sq m government office campus at Waverley in Rotherham. Utilising 38 acres of land between the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) and the Waverley Community development, the campus is expected to provide high specification office space for 2,000 employees for government departments in response to the desire to move activities out of central London and into the regions.
The office campus is alongside the larger Waverley Community, described as South Yorkshire's largest ever brownfield development creating a new 4,000 home community across 741 acres, an area bigger than Sheffield city centre.

Tram Train
