Workforce Summary

We have a young, dynamic and skilled workforce drawn from the surrounding areas and including Sheffield, Leeds and Doncaster. Wages in the region are more than 30% lower than London and we offer a high standard of living, along with a number of further training initiatives. We work with various sector skills councils and other national and regional organisations to make sure that businesses in Barnsley continues to thrive. 

Education and Qualification

Education across the region is high, with graduates drawn form the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and Doncaster as well as many other further education institutions in South Yorkshire. A large percentage of the population are considered skilled workers and we have a higher than normal concentration of trade skills.
