North Lincolnshire’s residents and businesses wanted all of those things – and that’s what they got!

We’re proud to be home to an extremely diverse set of traditions, history and lifestyles, which combine to make North Lincolnshire truly unique. As a result, people and employers see the area as an attractive and thriving place to live and work.

Predominately a rural area, North Lincolnshire is made up of a series of thriving historic market towns surrounded by many small villages, hamlets and breathtaking countryside. In its centre is the bustling urban heart of Scunthorpe; this industrial garden town provides North Lincolnshire with its main focus for education, retail and industry.

Housing

No matter what type of home you’re looking for, or if you’re looking to buy or rent, you’ll find it in North Lincolnshire.

Whether you’re in the market for a luxury town centre apartment, a quaint cottage in one of our market towns, a home you can raise a family in, or a million pound mansion, we have it here. And what’s more, homes in North Lincolnshire have remained affordable despite a staggering national rise.

We love our peaceful rural towns and villages, and our character-filled urban heart of Scunthorpe. And with many boasting a historic core or conservation areas, we want to keep them that way. That’s why we put a lot of effort into making sure that new or existing homes preserve and enhance our historic areas for the benefit of local residents and visitors.

Education

In North Lincolnshire, we have eighty-two schools:

  • 14 secondary schools
  • 47 primary schools
  • 9 junior schools
  • 10 infant schools
  • 2 special education schools for young people with physical and learning disabilities.

Thirty six of our primary and infant schools also have nursery facilities, and many local schools are approved by Ofsted as high quality, some even having Beacon Status. Schools in the area also have improvement rates above the national average.

North Lincolnshire is also home to a number of specialist schools, which hold specialist statuses including in the arts, technology, maths & computing, business & enterprise, languages, and sport. We also have two specialist engineering colleges, Brumby Engineering College and North Lindsey College, which provide practical engineering training and NVQ apprentice programmes that are developed to meet the needs of the business community.

Culture

North Lincolnshire has a passion for the arts with two contemporary galleries, both set in beautiful historic buildings. Scunthorpe’s Grade II listed St. John’s Church is the home of the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, where inspirational exhibitions feature nationally acclaimed artists. The Ropewalk in Barton is a fully restored Grade II listed building. A quarter of a mile long, it was once used for the region’s rope making industry, but now houses numerous artists and creative industry businesses as well as showing over 200 artists' work in four galleries. Ropery Hall has a regular programme of film, theatre, music, comedy and lectures.

The landmark £14m entertainment venue, the Baths Hall, provides a modern, multi-use venue that hosts live performances and events, top class entertainment, conferencing and wider community use for up to 2,000 people.

Recreational Activities

North Lincolnshire is renowned for its golfing prowess, with no less than eight superb courses. It is home to the prestigious 27-hole Championship golf course at Forest Pines Hotel & Golf Resort, which has hosted the Junior Golf Championships, the PGA Super 60s and the Euro Pro Qualifier events for the future names in golf. North Lincolnshire also boasts the 18-hole golf course in the magnificent grounds of Normanby Hall.

Cycling is a pleasure on our quiet country lanes. Sustrans Route 1, part of the national cycle network, passes through the area and is complemented by 13 other cycle routes ranging from 6 to 50 miles in length.

Much of the countryside is accessible to ramblers, through 440 km of public rights of way. The Nev Cole Way links with the Viking Way to create an 89-mile circular walk, through areas of natural beauty and wild shoreline.

Other

Good food is one of North Lincolnshire’s attractions with a reputation for a wide range of restaurants and cooking styles. We are home to Lincolnshire's most spectacularly successful restaurant, Winteringham Fields, which welcomes diners and celebrities from all over the country. The restaurant has received accolades including Restaurant of the Year from the Good Food Guide, 2 stars from Egan Ronay and numerous regional awards including Lincolnshire Restaurant of the Year. The most recent feather in the cap of this prestigious restaurant is being voted as the UK’s best French-inspired cuisine by none other than celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey during his 2010 Channel 4 TV show to find the best restaurant in the UK.

Many local restaurants and food producers are supported by the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire & Humber, and Tastes of Lincolnshire. They are also included in the Deliciouslyorkshire campaign for locally produced food.
