Environmental technology
Key Reasons:
The West Midlands is recognised internationally as the centre for manufacturing activity in the U.K., and more specifically Warwickshire is the centre for engineering excellence, with a strong heritage in automotive and electric engineering. In response to climate change and the resultant changes in the market place, it is this expertise and high level of engineering development activity that led to the development of a significant environmental technology sector that spans a range of activities.
At Warwick University and its innovation centres we have concentrations of leading edge research and high growth companies operating in the environmental technology sector. Operating in specific sub-sections, typical examples include the host of companies involved with the design of new generation vehicles with a lower carbon footprint and our electric engineering companies that are leading the field in the development of alternative power generation and upgrading existing facilities.
Warwickshire college has invested into developing a Power Academy in Rugby. The academy is designed to train and equip future engineers and researchers with the specific skills to help design efficient power sources with focus on renewable energy generation.
