In terms of output, the strongest contributors to the economy are Financial Services at 19.6%, Distribution at 16.5% and Transport and Communications at 12.5%. Manufacturing in metals and transport equipment are the largest sectors in Tamworth, comparative to both the West Midlands and the UK.
An analysis of cluster opportunities conducted by the Southern Staffordshire Partnership acknowledged the cluster strengths and opportunities in the sub-region. In Tamworth, potential investment areas were concentrated in the Building Technology, Medical Technology, and Transport Technology clusters. There is also good development potential in the clusters of Business Services and Environmental Technology.
