South Staffordshire Council - Development Projects
There are many major initiatives underway in South Staffordshire, including mixed-use, infrastructural, major commercial and retail developments. The Council supports these developments and encourages the use of rural diversification, which will support the social and economic needs of the local community.
Planned Developments
Strategic Employment Sites at i54
Mixed Use Development, Major CommercialThe i54 development site is located in South Staffordshire, and there are currently 30 hectares of land available for development. Companies like Jaguar Land Rover and Moog have already invested in the site. Please contact South Staffordshire Council for more information.
The Council supports the delivery of the strategic employment sites at the i54 Wobaston Road site and Hilton Cross. Support will be given for the development of the former Royal Ordinance Factory at Featherstone for general employment use.
Retail Development in Villages and Neighbourhood Centres
Retail DevelopmentRetail development within our Villages and Neighbourhood Centres will be supported.
Gailey Roundabout and M54 Junction 2 road to i54
Road InfrastructureHighway infrastructure will be improved along the A449/A5 Gailey Roundabout and M54 Junction 2 to allow for the delivery of the i54 employment site on the Wobaston Road.
Southern Staffordshire College Improvements
University/Science/ResearchSouthern Staffordshire College is located within a designated policy special area in the council’s core strategy, and its use as the main education and training establishment in the district will be supported.
Improvement for Transport in Rural Areas.
Road InfrastructureDiscussions are ongoing regarding the improvement of access to the rural parts of the district.
Canal Restoration
Tourism & LeisureThe council is planning to enhance the management and access of the district’s canals network. The Lichfield and Hatherton Restoration Trust have proposed plans for the restoration of the canal.
Improving Access to Telecommunications
BroadbandThe council supports the provision of broadband and superfast broadband internet services to villages throughout the District, but plans for implementation are yet to be finalised.
