Existing Business Base
Despite the district’s employment being traditionally in Agriculture, the largest employment sector in the area as of 2009 was in manufacturing, at around 13.1%. This was followed by health (11%), education (10.9%), accommodation and food services (8.8%) and retail (8.8%).
The fastest growing business sectors are in information and communication technologies, finance and insurance, and health. Other sectors that exhibit growth do so due to the employment of seasonal workers, given the rural, agricultural and touristic nature of the district.
