Make it Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire - Development Projects
Economic Development plays a key role in achieving the County`s mission statement; 'To make Staffordshire a great place to live, work, visit and invest'.
The guiding principles and priorities of this statement are:
- Promoting inclusion
- Ensuring the Delivery of High Quality Services
The aim of all Economic Development activities, therefore, is; 'To improve the prosperity of the people of Staffordshire whilst having regard to sustainability in all that we do'.
Actions planned to achieve the above are as follows:
- To make a full contribution to the Strategies of the North Staffordshire, Southern Staffordshire and Rural Partnerships, in order to create a higher quality and quantity of accessible jobs throughout the County.
- To preserve, diversify and enhance the County's economy through the stimulation of new investment, support for existing business, and implementing regeneration projects
- To provide managed workspace and land for industry
- To work in close partnership with economic development agencies, to help local businesses and support inward investment
- To promote and develop the County's tourism industry, through targeted and co-ordinated marketing initiatives with the private and public sectors.

Seek to influence decisions by national and European institutions, that will affect Staffordshire's ability to attract resources required for economic development and infrastructure improvements.
Planned Developments
MOD Defence Medical Services, Whittington, Lichfield
New HQ for the Ministry of Defence Medical ServicesThe £200 million development of Whittington Barracks into the new base for the Defence Medical Services could eventually create almost 2,000 new jobs for the area. The redevelopment of the Lichfield barracks is part of the Ministry of Defence`s plans to upgrade clinical care standards for military personnel and improve facilities in and around Birmingham.
Central Business District, Stoke-on-Trent City Centre
Major CommercialThe Genr8 proposals are for a phased development that will create approximately 1.2 million square feet of office, retail and hotel space, and create more than 4,200 jobs.Genr8 has brought leading international urban designers, Gehl Architects and RHWL, to help prepare the proposals, along with sustainability experts Atelier Ten. The proposals include:
- 750,000 square feet of "grade A" office space
- 60,000 square feet of leisure and retail space
- 250 hotel beds
- 80 apartments
- 230,000 square feet of high quality public space
University Quarter
University/Science/ResearchThe extensive development stretches from Stoke-on-Trent`s main railway station, through the campuses of City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College, Staffordshire University and Stoke-on-Trent College, into the city centre. It will create a series of shared flagship educational facilities, including a high-tech Science Centre, a purpose-built Media Centre, a Sports Training Centre, a Performing Arts Centre and a state-of-the-art library called a `Knowledge Hub`
Keele Science Park Phase 3
Major CommercialSpecialist joint venture company Helical Governetz, has signed an agreement with Keele Science and Business Park, to build 600,000sqft of offices for Phase 3 of the Park. The principal objective of Helical Governetz is to facilitate the relocation of government departments and to add efficiencies to their operations. The agreement with Keele also includes sustainable office space for selective private sector tenants, allied to the creation of a centre for the science and research industries.
