The main UK north-south motorways are the M6 (passes through Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire to the west) and M1 (runs close to the east of the area). The M42, in close proximity, forms the east and southern part of the Birmingham orbital, linking to the M5 (South West of England), and the M40 (Oxford and London).
