Shropshire-based Harper Adams University College specialises in rural, animal and land-based sectors, and is placed in the top 10 higher education institutions in the UK. It is home to the recently opened Regional Food Academy (RFA), which provides food and drink expertise and technical support to businesses. It aims to work collaboratively, and in partnership, to improve links between businesses and the knowledge base.
Keele University, Staffordshire University and the University of Wolverhampton adjoin Shropshire. The University of Wolverhampton works extensively with businesses in Shropshire and is second in the country for Knowledge Transfer Partnership schemes. Additionally, their Shropshire campus is home to the e-Innovation Centre, a UKBI approved incubator specialising in ICT.
There are a host of FE Colleges within Shropshire, including Concord College at Acton Burnell and Walford & North Shropshire College
Smithers Rapra Technology is located in Shawbury, north of Shrewsbury. It is recognised as a world-leading rubber and plastic consultancy, providing independent testing facilities alongside the world`s largest polymer information resource.
Accessed through the Regional Development Agency - Advantage West Midlands - there are a number of schemes available to businesses based within Shropshire, for support in research and development, with grant funding up to £500,000.
