Bristol City Council - Invest in Bristol - Development Plans
Bristol offers fantastic opportunities for growth and investment:
Our ambitious plans will see:
- The continuing development of the Temple Quarter Eco-Cluster, which represents the gravitational centre of the city's office market and offers occupiers a range of BREEAM excellent buildings. Much of the 240,000 sq metres of new office space for which permission has been granted in the city centre is concentrated at Temple Quay or on nearby sites.
- The construction of 87,000 new homes of which 51,000 are to be built within the Bristol urban area and 36,000 in urban extensions including a proposed 10,000 homes and mixed-use development to the south west of Bristol.
- Employment growth of 92,000 jobs including the provision of 24.5 hectares of industrial and warehousing land.
- An expansion of the employment and cultural role of Bristol City Centre through redevelopment and regeneration.
- Regeneration initiatives in South Bristol, particularly at Hengove Park.
- The continuing role of the Bristol North Fringe as an economic centre of regional and national importance particularly with regard to aerospace and defence.
- Port related development and a range of employment uses at Avonmouth Severnside.
Major schemes in the pipeline or planned over the next five years include:
- The continuing regeneration of key sites and areas in Bristol City Centre including the Temple Quarter, Finzels Reach and Harbourside. There is also scope for major redevelopment on sites adjacent to Temple Way and Temple Meads Station (potentially over 200,000 sq. metres of commercial floor space).
- Major industrial, warehousing and waste/energy plants at Avonmouth Severnside continuing on from the 250,000 sq. metres of development that has been completed in recent years at Access 18, Avonmouth Logistics Park, Cabot Park and G Park.
- A new 77,000 sq. metres, 300 million Science Park on 21 hectares at Emersons Green to the north east of Bristol.
- A £200 million new composites plant at the Airbus site at Filton.
- A major expansion of Ministry of Defence procurement operations at Abbey Wood to the north of Bristol.
- Employment related development on large brown field sites in the North Fringe.
- A new 80 million science and maths complex at Bristol University.
- A major 300 million expansion of the University of the West of England at Frenchay.
- A new state of the art 430 million hospital at Southmead serving North Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
- A new 65 million, 30,000 capacity football stadium for Bristol City Football Club at Ashton.
- A 200 million extension of port facilities at Avonmouth to accommodate the new generation of large container ships.
