Green Technology UK
With Devon's abundant natural resources and environmental credentials, the county is recognised as having significant growth potential in the UK's renewable energy sector.
There are over 50 renewable energy businesses in Devon, representing all types of renewable energy technologies, and the county currently has the highest number of installed projects in South West England.
Devon has great potential for wind energy production, with plans including the 1.5GW offshore Atlantic Array wind farm, located off North Devon. The wind farm will be a hub for marine renewable energy and related supply chains. The county also has two large onshore wind projects under construction off North Devon, estimated to provide over 75MW of capacity.
Employment in the South West’s renewable energy sector increased by an average of 30% between 2009 and 2010, and business turnover increased by an average of 23% (Regen SW).
