Locate in Kent - Development Projects
Current Investment in Kent...
The main economic strategy is the Kent Regeneration Framework. Kent will enjoy substantial growth in population and business base over the next 20-30 years. The county is home to two major Government growth areas, Thames Gateway Kent and Ashford.
These two areas will accommodate 31,000 new homes and 28,000 new jobs by 2031 (Ashford), and 45,000 new homes and 58,000 new jobs in the next 20 years (Kent Thames Gateway) respectively, but there will be substantial growth in other parts of the county, too, especially in Maidstone and the coastal towns. Projections from Kent County Council show that the population of the county is expected to grow from 1,580,900 in 2001 to 1,685,000 in 2016.
All this development will be mixed use and sustainable, and preceded by major new infrastructure such as roads, schools, public transport and health facilities, in addition to the recent benefit of the first high-speed domestic rail line in the UK, which dramatically cuts travel times between Kent and London - in some case to less than half.
Other planned developments include those at Kent International Airport, near Ramsgate, and London (Ashford) Airport at Lydd near Ashford.
