Lewes is a beautiful district attracting thousands of visitors annually, with its unique history, landmarks, scenery and coastal location, just over an hour from London by rail.
The town has been identified as having an unusually diversified economy with several specialist, independent retailers. Harvey & Son's brewery is located here - celebrated as one the finest ale producers in England.
Communications links include the A27 trunk road, the A26 road and the A275 (London) road. The East Coastway Line connects London with Eastbourne and Hastings, and there are two branches to Brighton and Seaford.

- Lewes Downs - a site of biological interest and isolated from the South Downs
