The Economic Development Unit within the Council also directly manages the Business Gateway service in Shetland and provides practical advice and support for both new and existing businesses in the area through three targetted areas, as follows:
- Our Research and Development Service undertakes a range of research work and pursues the development of technology, particularly in renewable energy.
- Our Ventures Service offers advice regarding business assistance and undertakes investment in a variety of projects across all Shetland’s economic sectors.
- Our Marketing Service seeks to promote Shetland’s reputation generally and offer help and advice to ensure the community and its entrepreneurs are confident as they approach the marketplace.
