Lews Castle College is an academic partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands Millennium Institute (UHI). Established in 1953, originally in the historic Lews Castle and now in brand new campuses as a part of the UHI, they offer post-school education at every level, right up to Ph.D.
The College had a total enrolment of over 2,700 students in 2007-2008. It offers more than 60 full-time courses, more than 80 part-time courses, and more than 30 Higher National Certificates, Higher National Diplomas, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and other higher education programmes. There are also Access courses to degrees, which allow students to complete at least part of their degree studies in the Outer Hebrides. Also available are more than 200 evening classes, taught at locations throughout the islands.
The College employs more than 150 staff in the Outer Hebrides, and offers a wide range of business services including training, consultancy and facilities. Murray International Language Centre is also based at the College, which has an excellent range of courses available to teach English to speakers of other languages.
