Key Competitive Attractions
Invest in Fife...
One of the main advantages that Fife can offer businesses is its location. It sits within the central belt of Scotland and is accessible to all cities within Scotland, being less than an hour’s drive from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee, and approximately 90 minutes from Aberdeen.
The easy road access coupled with 18 local and mainline railway stations, means working in Fife is a realistic option for a significant proportion of the Scottish population.
Living in Fife offers the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of coast or rural life, with the convenience of modern towns and cities close-by. Fife offers more choice and real value with a cost of living which is below the Scottish average and house prices which are very competitive.

Existing Business Base
The Fife economy was traditionally focused around manufacturing and engineering, and many of these companies still exist today. However, they have changed significantly by moving to high value products to compete with low cost economies. A number of these companies are applying their engineering expertise to the renewable energy sector, including Babcock, Burntisland Fabrications, Oceaneering and Rolls Royce, many of which are located at the renewable energy park.
In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in the service sector within the economy. The close proximity to Edinburgh has attracted many companies to the region including major banks like Lloyds Banking Group (HBOS) and Nationwide Building Society. Several major contact centres are located in the region including BSkyB and MGt. Jones Lang LaSalle's Data Centre Advisory Group has also named Fife one of the most significant emerging data centres in Europe.
