BioEden, Dalesbury SIC
BioEden is an international biotech business located on the Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus. BioEdens innovation is the collection and storage of stem cells from childrens milk teeth a non-invasive technique that happens after the teeth have fallen out naturally. Cells are extracted from the teeth, checked if they are healthy, and then amplified to provide sufficient quantities for future use, after which they are stored in liquid nitrogen vapour for preservation.
Stem cells enable all healing processes in the body, repairing damaged tissue by gravitating to areas of damage. BioEden is working with Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) which are responsible for tissue restoration (skin, bones, muscles, ligaments). MSCs are pluripotent meaning they can become any tissue, meaning the potential future applications for stem cell technology involve the treatment of heart attacks, Alzheimers disease and multiple sclerosis with the possibility of repairing nerve damage in the long term.
