Key Reasons:
Chemical Manufacturing
Halton is well known for its work in the chemicals industry, with a history dating back to the mid-19th century. As such, a large cluster of businesses, suppliers and skilled labour has developed.
The availability of affordable, modern premises, efficient communications infrastructure and an attractive grant scheme also make the area popular among inward investors.
The Northwest region is the UK’s biggest centre for chemical manufacture, home to nearly 800 organisations, employing over 160,000 people and generating over £10 billion in sales ( representing 20% of the UK’s chemical industry. Over 50% (£5 billion) of the region’s exports are in the chemicals sector.
In 2009, Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus opened the Knowledge Centre for Materials Chemistry. Daresbury Laboratory delivers platform technology to the chemicals industry via the Synchrotron Radiation Source and SuperSTEM, and the Computational Science and Engineering Department provides molecular / mesoscale modelling and simulation capabilities.
