The M60 Manchester orbital motorway runs through Stockport, east to west, adjacent to the town centre, with 5 motorway junctions directly serving the borough. The M56 flows to the west of the borough, and both the M62 and M6 can be reached within 20 minutes by road.

Stockport is on the Intercity West Coast Main Line; as such, its central station provides a busy interchange for intercity, cross-country and local networks. Virgin Rail operates half hourly high-speed services to London, with journeys taking 2 hours.

Local rail connectivity is provided by seventeen railway stations throughout the borough - more stations than any other borough of the Manchester City region. The local rail network offers reliable transport for commuters and shoppers, providing radial routes to and from Stockport centre. Trains to Manchester Piccadilly station take 10 minutes and operate approximately every 5 minutes during peak times.

Through motorway and trunk routes, such as the M56, M60, M62, and A628, Stockport is ideally placed to link to two of the UK`s busiest freight ports.

The Humber ports, in the east, is easily accessible in just over two hours, and Liverpool, to the west, is less than an hour away. The road network is also supported by rail freight, through the West Coast Main Line and the Stockport/Romiley line.
