Businesses have continued to recognise the advantages that Stockport can offer as a place to do business throughout 2010/11. Over the last year, a wide range of investment, resulting in the creation and safeguarding of over 1,500 jobs has taken place in Stockport.
In total, known business investment during 2010/11 will have led to the creation of a total of 749 new jobs and the safeguarding of 796 jobs. During this period an encouraging 265,395 sq ft of commercial and industrial space will have been occupied by businesses investing in the borough.
Recent Investments:
- WNS Assistance moved 150 staff to a new custom-built operational centre in Hercules Office Park, Bird Hall Lane, Cheadle, and have begun recruiting for a further 30 roles.
- Stockport law firm Gorvins took three floors (15,000 sq ft) in the nine-storey, refurbished Dale House, Tiviot Dale.
- Debt advice company First Step Finance have taken 25,000 sq ft of office space at Grand Central.
- BSkyB have taken the top floor in BAM Properties’ St Peter’s Square offices, comprising 5,673 sq ft, bringing its occupancy to 62% of the building, and its job creation total to 650.
- Information technology firm, Stealth Intelligence has taken 4,000 sq ft at Rhino Court in Hazel Grove.
- Adam International, a manufacturer and installer of energy management systems, has secured a second site in Stockport as it continues to expand. The 3,400 sq ft building on Gordon Street will house its stores and programming department, and will coincide with plans to create 30 jobs in 2011.
Cllr Dave Goddard, Leader of Stockport Council, said: "These figures show that Stockport has been successful in attracting jobs, businesses and investment into the town, despite strong competition with other areas across the country”
Stockport has also reaffirmed its commitment to keep developing the town as a key business location with the launch of a new ‘Development Prospectus’, which sets out key development opportunities and how the Council will deliver its regeneration plans for the town centre.
Councillor Goddard said: “Our priority now is creating opportunities, creating jobs and constantly pushing forward to make things happen. Our recent bid to make Stockport Britain’s newest city and the recent purchase of Grand Central are both clear indications that we mean business.”
