Copeland's diverse economy is peppered with dynamic and healthy medium sized firms, and has a growing service sector, with employment across a spectrum of businesses and organisations. Carlisle is the closest city to Copeland, just 45 minutes drive. The M6 motorway can be accessed via junctions 42 and 40 at the northern boundary of the borough, providing quick access to Penrith just one hour away. The West Coast Main Line connects to the Cumbria Coastal Railway at Carlisle and via Barrow and Lancaster.
