Planned Developments
Norwich Area Transport Strategy
Road Infrastructure
The strategy provides a framework for improved access to jobs and services, particularly for those most in need, in ways that are sustainable, i.e. improved public transport and safety, and reduced problems of congestion and pollution.
For example, in Norwich, a £10 million package of improvements to public transport is being delivered, including a new bus station (already in operation), priority measures on Rose Lane, and a new interchange at the Rail Station.
The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC)
University/Science/ResearchTGAC has been established in Norwich by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) in partnership with regional economic development partners - The East of England Development Agency (EEDA), Norfolk County Council, South Norfolk Council, Norwich City Council and the Greater Norwich Development Partnership. The centre represents an investment by all the partners in the capital infrastructure of £13.5M.
TGAC will further the UK`s capacity in genomics - the science of understanding the genetic makeup of organisms and the genetic differences that exist between individuals. Based at Norwich Research Park, the Centre is at the forefront of world class research.
Dualling of the A11 road
Road InfrastructureThe A11 connects the East of England with London and the Midlands, via the motorway network. At present, 9 miles of the road is single carriageway, however plans have been approved to begin dualling this in 2010. Completion of the dualling will significantly contribute to improving journey time reliability and ease congestion.
Hethel Engineering Centre (HEC) Phase 2
Major CommercialPlans are being developed to add an extension to the existing Centre to provide further business units for high performance engineering and manufacturing companies. This contributes to HEC`s vision to:
- Provide a centre for engineering excellence, creating the conditions for success
- Proivde an enterprise hub supporting advanced engineering
- Be at the heart of a new Technology Park which will be a world class research intensive cluster
EastPort UK
Port DevelopmentThe port at Great Yarmouth is a modern, multi-purpose facility integrating a new deep-water outer harbour with the well established river port.
Strategically located in the Southern North Sea, the port has become a centre of excellence in the offshore energy sector, and with the introduction of the new deep-water facility, the port can facilitate the larger offshore vessels now being deployed.
The port is the closest deep-water facility to Northern Europe and with it's new container terminal.
