Work is underway across Stevenage to meet the needs of businesses both now and in the future...
Planned Developments
Stevenage Town Centre
Major Commercial, Mixed Use Development, Retail Development, Road Infrastructure, Tourism & Leisure
Stevenage was the first town in Britain to build a pedestrianised shopping centre and has since continued to attract quality retail and leisure investment, including the West Gate Centre, the Forum, the Plaza, and the Roaring Meg.
An opportunity for the major redevelopment of the town centre has now arisen.
The development will include the following:
- Restaurants
- New shops, including a large department store
- Improved public spaces
- Improved access
- New bus station
- New town centre car parking
- New civic facilities
Gunnels Wood
Major Commercial, Housing Development
Gunnels Wood is Stevenage’s biggest employment area, employing 18,800 people in 720,000 sq m of commercial space.
The Gunnels Wood Action Plan outlines projects to improve access around Gunnels Wood and improve accommodation on the site. The developments will facilitate the growth of the area up to 2021.
Knebworth Innovation Park
Major Commercial, University/Science/Research
Plans for a science park at the southern entrance to Stevenage just off junction 7 of the A1 motorway have been proposed.
Within convenient proximity to GSK campus and Gunnels Wood employment centre, the project could create 3,100 jobs.
The aim of the project is to create a high-quality science park for hi-tech and advanced engineering businesses.
Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst
Major Commercial, University/Science/Research
Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst will provide small companies and start-ups operating in biotech and life sciences access to skills, networks and scientific facilities normally associated with global pharmaceutical companies.
The development has the support of the Government, business community, and the charity sector, and will offer a nurturing environment for commercial and scientific success.
A variety of equipment and commercial opportunities will be available, as well as opportunities for networking in scientific and commercial circles that would not usually be possible for SME’s. Plans for the campus include expansion to five times its size.
