The area has seen a rapid rise in the commercialisation in innovative technologies, and major sectors include information technology, biotechnology, life sciences, instrumentation, nanotechnology, electronics, wireless technologies, and inkjet printing.
The sub-region is a designated part of the London-Stansted-Cambridge-Peterborough M11 growth area, which is projected to accommodate almost 50,000 new homes by 2016 and create nearly 70,000 jobs by 2021.
