District winners of Young Enterprise scheme, Cliché, go from strength to strength...
After coming first in the District final of Young Enterprise, Cliché, a group of young entrepreneurs from Grantham, came a very close 2nd at the regional finals, and then went on to win the prestigious Telegraph New Media award for their video promotion of their Young Enterprise company.
Cliché developed The Handy Mat, an innovative product designed to make it easier to paint your nails on the go. The Handy Mat has now become the overall winner of SK Pioneers, South Kesteven District Council's new competition implemented to discover and encourage entrepreneurs throughout the district.
The competition was just one of over 30 events during Enterprise Week, and offered a total prize package worth approximately £10,000, thanks to the sponsorship from various local organisations.
The 22 entrants were narrowed down to four finalists, judged by five local business figures, including Andy Harsley, inventor of the Rapstrap, which featured on BBC's Dragon's Den.
Cllr Frances Cartwright, SKDC portfolio holder for economic development said: "We were delighted with the response to the competition, which shows that there are many people in our district who want to make a go of their own business and are prepared to put the time and the money behind their ideas.”
"Because of our previous connection with Cliché, Andy and I stepped back from the final judging. The remaining judges were unanimous as to the winner. Usually Young Enterprise organisations cease trading at the end of the competition, but Cliché have continued to develop their company and their product and have shown amazing confidence in getting their product into some of our major high street stores."
Frances added: "SKPioneers is just one of a whole week (September 10-17) of events aimed at celebrating and encouraging existing and new business across the district."
