Key Competitive Attractions

With miles of beautiful coastline, a thriving visitor economy and easy links to major UK cities, the district of East Lindsey is an attractive place to live and invest.

At over 700 square miles, East Lindsey is the third largest district in the country with a population of nearly 140,000. Its four main towns, a mixture of coastal resorts and market towns - Skegness, Louth, Mablethorpe and Horncastle - all have populations exceeding 10,000, each with their own distinct and thriving economies.

East Lindsey has one of the fastest rates of economic growth in the UK, with contemporary industries including engineering and media playing an increasing role in the district’s economy, which was originally built on agriculture and manufacturing.

East Lindsey is well known for its exceptional quality of life (low unemployment, low crime rates, high educational standards, healthcare, access to countryside and low house prices).

With key holiday resorts such as Skegness, tourism is the focus of many businesses in the district, and large numbers of visitors come for day trips and short breaks.

Business in East Lindsey is flourishing - reasons to invest include:

  • Potential for significant retail, leisure and industrial development on employment land throughout the district
  • Competitive land costs
  • Continued development of fully serviced freehold industrial land
  • Network of business incubation centres
  • Quality of life
  • Efficient communication links to main distribution arteries
  • Established skills base to support key sectors
  • Local and Regional support for investment in the district

Assistance and Support For New Business Investors

The Economic Development Team at East Lindsey District Council aim to give assistance on most aspects of business development (either directly or through established partnership links). In addition to on-line information resources, such as the property search link, the Economic Development Team will deal with your needs on an individual basis offering advice and a referral and liaison service on other aspects of business development e.g. planning and environmental issues, funding opportunities etc.

East Lindsey District Council also employs Town Centre Managers to support the on-going development of town-centres throughout the District.

Existing Business Base

East Lindsey has over 8,000 businesses and our economy is predominantly based around Light Manufacturing, Farming, Retail, Hospitality and Tourism.

East Lindsey is home to a diversity of successful local, national and international operations. Butlins, based in Ingoldmells, is synonymous with the domestic tourism industry and the district has clusters of paper/card and plastic converting operations. The diversity of East Lindsey`s business stock is further illustrated by the fact that the district is also home to international motorbike-racing teams, a world leader in the manufacture of beehives (EH Thorne) and Aura-Soma Ltd that manufacture alternative therapy products. Green energy generation (wind) is also a growing sector of the economy.

The significant SME sector in East Lindsey is also highly diverse, and in order to ensure a thriving local economy, East Lindsey District Council actively encourages small business development, championed by our Business Centres, in order to stimulate an entrepreneurial culture across market town, rural and agricultural communities.
