The Agriculture Industry is strong in the Rutland economy, with much wheat farming on the rich soil, and Tourism is a growing sector. Rutland ranks 348th out of 354 on the Indices of Deprivation for England, placing it as one of the least economically deprived areas in the country, and Rutland became the fourth Fairtrade County in March 2007.
The highest percentage of the Rutland workforce (30.8%) work in Public Administration, Education and Health; 29.7% work in Distribution, Hotels and Restaurants and 16.7% in Manufacturing industries.
