Charnwood Business - Universities & Research
Charnwood has the rare distinction of having no less than six universities within half an hour`s journey (Loughborough [Sunday Times University of the Year 2008-9], Leicester, De Montfort, Nottingham, Nottingham Trent and Derby).
Phase 2 of the Loughborough Science Park is currently at an advanced planning stage and its first tenants have already been identified. It builds upon Phase 1 (Holywell Park), the former Research and Technology Centre for British Gas, which is now owned by the University but still has high quality space available for technology based companies.
Loughborough Innovation Centre, based on the University campus, has space for technology based start up companies (even down to rent-a-desk).
Astra Zeneca R&D Charnwood conducts state of the art research in pharmaceuticals
(former British Gas Research & Technology Centre).
Technology and R&D companies are supported by the high-tech LATI network, which promotes links between companies and local universities, and the i-Nets (covering food and drink, transport, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, and sustainable construction sectors) as part of the regional Innovation Strategy.
