Izmir is a popular target for inward investment in Turkey, with investment from Schineider Electric, British American Tobacco, Japan Tobacco, KT&G, Philip Morris, Hugo Boss, Akzo Nobel, Delphi, Tetra Pak and Tesco. 28% of inward investment comes from France, 28% from the United Kingdom, and 24% from Belgium.
Izmir accounts for 9% of all the industrial output in Turkey, and is the third most populous metropolis in the country. Izmir is also third largest exporter in Turkey, and the fifth largest importer, accounting for approximately one fifth of all Turkish exports, through the Port of Alsancak.
