The Greater Zurich Area covers approximately 5,790 square miles, all within a 60-minute radius of Zurich International Airport by car. The area and consists of the cantons of Aargau, Glarus, Grisons, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, Solothurn, Zug and Zurich.
According to the Global Competitive Index produced by the World Economic Forum 2010, the Swiss economy is one of the strongest and most competitive anywhere in the world and leading in Europe. With a population of 3.7 million, nearly half the Swiss population lives in the Greater Zurich Area. The business region in and around Zurich employs approximately 1.5 million multilingual, international workers in about 150,000 companies. Key sectors include financial services, life sciences, information and communication technologies (ICT), and micro- and nanotechnologies.
