Presov Regional Council
Key Competitive Attractions
Presov is the most populated region in Slovakia, and home to the High Tatras National Park – the most highly regarded national park in Slovakia. The region shares a border with Poland and Ukraine, and has an extensive transportation infrastructure which connects with the rest of the country.
Presov is a highly forested region with a strong tourist and wood industry supported by these natural strengths. Other main sectors include food processing, mechanical engineering and textiles. These industries are spread throughout the region. In addition, several large companies in Humenne represent a significant proportion of the regional GDP in the chemical sector.
Foreign direct investment has been growing in Presov in recent years, and came to €234 million in 2009. Presov has the lowest average wages of any region in Slovakia, and this has helped to draw foreign investment, particularly in the manufacturing sectors.
