Nitra Regional Council
Key Competitive Attractions
The Nitra region is named after its capital, and is home to 706,375 people. The region has a diverse population, with Slovaks making up 68% of the population, and Hungarians 27%. Geographically, the region benefits from the warmest climate in Slovakia, and a high proportion of arable land, which has resulted in the high production of wheat, rye and vegetables.
The city of Nitra is the economic centre of the region, and the site of the Slovak University of Agriculture. Brewing and agriculture are the most important industries, though industrial manufacturing is also significant, as is nuclear power, home to one of Slovakia’s nuclear power plants, situated between Nitra and Levice.
Nitra borders Hungary, and has some of the oldest settlements in Slovakia. Tourist attractions in the region include historical settlements, natural thermal springs, forests and parks.
Assistance and Support For New Business Investors
Governmental support is available for investors seeking entrance into Slovakia, and many of these services will apply in Nitra. The Nitra Regional Council may also be able to provide assistance with information about the region and the opportunities for investment that are available.
