The city and municipality of Valjevo is the administrative centre of the Kolubara district, in western Serbia. The city is roughly 100 km southwest of Belgrade and is regarded as one of the oldest cities in the country.
Valjevo‘s main economic activity is in agriculture, food and drink production, metal processing, textiles, graphics, wood processing, civil engineering and non-metals.
There are seven large enterprises operating in Valjevo, though the majority of companies, numbering over a thousand in total, are small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Foreign investors include the insulation company Austroterm (Austria); the textiles company Golden Lady (Italy), and the domestic appliance manufacturer Gorenje (Slovenia). There is also potential for growth in tourism.
Assistance and Support For New Business Investors
The Department for Local Development and Economy was founded in 2009, in cooperation with USAID. The tasks of the department are to attract foreign investment and to assist and encourage growth in the private sector. It is a source of information on investment opportunities, conditions for business, grants and incentives.
