The Regional Development Association South covers the districts of Nisava, Toplica and Pirot.
Industry is concentrated primarily Nis, Pirot and Prokuplje. The most important sectors include automotives, electronics, heavy machinery, metal production, textiles and tobacco.
The rest of the region is largely devoted to agricultural activities. Prokuplje is known for plum brandy, confectionary and mineral water. In addition, future investments are being made for the development of health food, drinks and tonics. The health tourism sector could be further explored, with Toplica rich in mineral and thermal water.
