The Eastern Serbia Regional Development Agency covers the Timok region, which consists of the districts of Bor and Zajecar and borders Romania and Bulgaria.
The primary industrial activities in the region are mining, agriculture, forestry, wood processing, textiles, chemicals, tourism and construction. The region is rich in copper and gold. Agricultural activity includes cattle breeding, crop husbandry, fruit growing and viticulture. There is also considerable potential for wind energy.
The most important export items are related to the processing of copper and the production of clothing and footwear. Thanks to this, Timok enjoys a trade surplus.
