The Lower Silesia Voivodeship has recorded the highest economic growth rate in Poland since 2005, with an average increase of 10% per annum, making it one of the country’s richest regions.
The region’s capital, Wroclaw, is a major industrial, financial and cultural centre of Poland, with a diverse economy rich in traditional manufacturing industries, such as automotive and electronics, as well as a healthy amount of foreign investment in high-tech sectors, such as the LG Electronics production cluster in Kobierzyce.
Wroclaw is an important financial centre in Poland, boasts the headquarters of numerous Polish and international financial institutions, including Lukas Bank, Bank Zachodni WBK, Europejski Fundusz Leasingowy, and Getin Bank.
Tourism is also important to the region, with a rich historical and cultural scene, and is among the candidates for European Capital of Culture 2016.
With over 135,000 students in 30 higher educational institutions, employing 7,400 staff, Wroclaw is the third-biggest educational centre in the country, offering a large pool of highly skilled labour. The region is especially strong in creative industries, life sciences, and medical science.
