Rogaland County Council
Key Competitive Attractions
Rogaland County's administration is situated in Stavanger, the oil industry centre and 4th largest city of Norway.
Boasting a varied landscape of mountains, fjords, fertile pastures and coastlines, Rogaland has a healthy economy based around tourism, renewable industries, petroleum production, construction materials, shipping, and food production.
The exportation of sand, gravel and stone has become a major industry in recent years. Rogaland is Norway’s main supplier of sand and stone, exporting to construction companies throughout Europe. The massive sand reserves have been used in the concrete sections of oil platforms, and in the Oresund and Storebaelt bridges.
Rogaland is home to two of Norway’s most important shipping and maritime centres: Haugesund and Stavanger. Ships from every continent dock into these cities, largely transporting petroleum goods. Today, Stavanger is Norway’s main oil industry hub, and the increased shipping and oil industry generated a mass of related industries, including shipbuilding. Today, Stavanger boasts one of the most modern and impressive shipyards in Norway.
In line with the growth of these industries, high-tech industries are developing greener methods of producing and using petroleum. Rogaland’s IT and R&D networks collaborative with industry, complementing growth in both private and public sectors.
