Key Competitive Attractions
Hedmark County shares borders with Sor-Trondelag, Oppland and Akershus counties as well as a part of Sweden. The county administrative centre is in Hamar.
Hedmark is one of Norway’s least urbanised areas, with almost 50% of its inhabitants living on rural land. For this reason, the county is well known for its agricultural industries, especially timber production. A high concentration of the population lives in the rich agricultural area joining Mjosa to southeastern Norway. Abundant in natural resources and forests, the county supplies much of Norway with timber, facilitated by excellent train and road connections.
In addition to traditional industries, Hedmark is fast becoming an innovative region, encouraged by the county council’s funding schemes, as part of the Regional Development Programme.
The council works with the business community and implements schemes to stimulate commercial ventures throughout the county. The Regional Development Programme (RUP) concentrates on the Hedmark Priority Sectors:
- Tourism
- Creative Industries
- Biotechnology
- Agriculture-related Industries
