Key Competitive Attractions
Akershus County borders Hedmark, Oppland, Buskerud, Oslo and Ostfold counties, as well as a small part of Sweden. With over 500,000 inhabitants, Akershus is the second largest county by population after Oslo. Due to such close proximity, the city of Oslo is also the region’s administrative centre.
Akershus boasts an enviable package of high-technology and R&D centres, consulting firms, office and service firms and proximity to Norway's biggest airport – Oslo International, Gardermoen.
In addition to its excellent industrial and commerce climate, the region also benefits from outstanding natural beauty, making it a popular tourist spot.
Situated on the outskirts of the capital city, and offering landscapes, forests and coastal views along the Oslo Fjord, and an abundance of recreational activities, the region thrives off its tourism industry.

The region’s advantages in these industries are being internationally promoted by Oslo Teknopol Authority, which has prepared a strategy to particularly reach scientific communities.
