Nature and structure of the labour force, demographics
The total number of people that are employed in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is 1.2 million. More than half of them (57%) are working in the service sector and 30% are working for the government or in the health care sector. Small proportions are employed in industry (8%) and the construction sector (5%). Less than 1 % are working in the primary sector.
