Tivat is the smallest municipality in Montenegro with an area of 46 sq km. The majority of the population live directly in the city of Tivat, which accounts for 9,467 of the 13,630 people living in the region.
Tivat is a popular tourist destination in the Slavic region, and has attracted foreign investment to support this industry. Maritime tourism is particularly attractive, as the region is situated by an inlet of the Mediterranean Sea. Historically, the maritime and shipbuilding industry has been a major source of revenue for the region. Tole Tivat still operates two dry docks in the region.
