Niksic is the largest municipality in Montenegro by size, and home to the country’s second largest city – the city of Niksic. Niksic has a population of 72,824 of which almost 60,000 live in the city of Niksic itself.
The municipality is located in the north-central area of Montenegro, and the region is considered second only to Podgorica in terms of cultural, economic and industrial importance.
Metallurgy is the primary industry in the region, with the primary employers being a steel mill and a bauxite mine.
The Trebjesa brewery is located in Niksic, and alcohol production is an important export. Food and drink production is the region’s second most important industry.
