Marijampole County is situated in the south of Lithuania, bordering Kaliningrad and Poland, and Lake Vistytis. Its capital, Marijampole city, is an important industrial centre, and is the seventh largest city in the country.
The county is crossed by two very important highways; Via Baltica, joining Helsinki with Central and Southern Europe; and the other joining Kaliningrad and Moscow via Minsk.
Rail links provide excellent services to Lithuania’s southern towns, and the Kaunas-Sestokai-Alytus railway also passes through the county.
The county offers excellent educational facilities, with the city alone boasting:
