As a small nation, the Government is well placed to be able to meet the needs of businesses by creating effective new legislation and reducing bureaucracy.

An important element of the Government’s fiscal strength is the requirement that it budgets for a surplus in respect of annual revenue spending.

The Isle of Man has an exceptional infrastructure with resilient, world-class telecoms and power supplies. The infrastructure has had to progress rapidly to keep pace with the increasingly sophisticated demands of both businesses and individuals.

The Isle of Man encourages diversification and enterprise with generous financial incentives for business start-ups and expansion. We offer 0% corporate tax, no capital gains tax, low personal taxes, plus availability of generous grant assistance for businesses.

The Island also prides itself on being a caring society and offers excellent standards in both health care and education. Quality of life is bolstered by one of the lowest crime rates in the British Isles, short commuting times and a strong community spirit.

The Isle of Man is a leading international business centre perhaps best known for its financial services industry. In recent years the Island has diversified its economy and now it hosts a wide range of high value added and high quality industries including: aircraft registration; e-business; e-gaming; film production; local food produce and crafts; high tech manufacturing; ship and super yacht registration; space commerce; tourism

The Isle of Man economy has enjoyed an average of over 6% growth in real terms over the past 26 years.

The Isle of Man has avoided recession and the latest economic figures are encouraging, with National Income forecast to grow by 4% in 2011. The key sectors in generating this performance have been financial services (this sector has grown by around two-thirds in the last six years) and professional services (growth of 50%). Banking generates typically around one fifth of the Island’s gross domestic product, with the rest of the finance industry adding another 15 to 20%.

The vast bulk of trade of the Isle of Man is conducted with the United Kingdom. In the last few years new economic activities have been developed, such as aircraft registration and most significantly, e-gaming and other areas of e-commerce. These and other activities have been attracted to the Island by the competitive tax regime, a skilled work force, and a well-regulated business environment. Agriculture, fishing and tourism used to be traditional mainstays of the Island's economy, but they have declined in importance. The Island's Government has encouraged economic growth by creating a beneficial tax regime and by offering financial incentives to manufacturing and tourism.
