Midlands Regional Authority
Key Competitive Attractions
The Midland Region has recently undergone developments to its transport infrastructure, and benefits from quick access to major ports and airports, as well as excellent road and rail infrastructure facilitating inter-regional communications.
Key Advantages:
- Availability of skilled labour
- Designated development sites and supporting infrastructure to facilitate growth
- The presence of cutaway bogs, offering development potential in the production of renewable energy.
- Tourism development potential, due to existing attractions and the space to develop new attractions.
- A supportive environment for innovative activity, home to Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT), which collaborates with other Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) including NUI Galway, the MIRC, NUI Maynooth and Carlow Institute of Technology, Georgia Tech Ireland and others.

- Well-established indigenous business base, led by engineering, food and drink production, life sciences, ICT, and software development. These industries offer a platform, from which foreign investment can grow.
