Mid-East Regional Authority
Key Competitive Attractions
Mid-East Region comprises the counties of Kildare, Meath and Wicklow, covering 6,063 sq km, with a population of 412,650 people. Agricultural activities account for 8% of employment, manufacturing for 32%, and services for 60%.
Meath
Meath County is projected to receive the highest concentration of future investment and development. With its large rural areas, North Meath offers opportunities for housing developments.
Meath's southern cities, bordering the Dublin region, are known as the ‘South Meath Fringe’, benefitting from the capital's employment and development opportunities.
Kildare
Kildare county boasts rural, urban, industrial, commercial and residential areas, but is mainly an agricultural county.
The Naas/Newbridge/Kilcullen triangle has been identified as a potential development area, listed in the Strategic Planning Guidelines for the Greater Dublin Area as the Primary Development Centre for the county.
Wicklow
Development in Wicklow is concentrated in the north, towards Dublin, and east along the N11 corridor, due to the dominating presence of the mountain range. This area has experienced extensive residential development in recent years, as a response to rising costs in Dublin. This presents a distinct advantage to investors; the Mid-East Region offers the central location and benefits of a capital city, without the high costs.
Assistance and Support For New Business Investors
The Mid-East Regional Authority is responsible for preparing the Regional Planning Guidelines and the Regional Economic and Social Strategy, as well as supporting the local authorities and overseeing development projects and initiatives.
The Authority also coordinates with the Dublin Metropolitan Area and promotes the region’s strategies.
