The Southland region consists of 14 municipalities in the south of Iceland. Businesses in this region are mainly small and medium sized companies. Southland is mainly an agricultural area and a big national player in dairy, meat and vegetable production. The region also has a strong industry in fishing and fish production in Iceland.
Over the last decade, the service sector has become a significant contributor to Iceland’s Gross Domestic Product, and the Southland region is getting increasingly popular as a recreational area. It has a large number of holiday homes and numerous tourist attractions including the Golden Circle and Pingvellir National Park.
